历史悠久的温莎城堡，城堡表面上看似中古时代的外观，实际上是杰弗里·亚特维尔于1820年创造出来的。1070年征服者威廉一世为了巩固伦敦以西的防御，而选择了这个地势较高的地点，建造了以土垒为主要材料的城堡，后来经过后世君王亨利二世和爱德华三世的不断改造，城堡变得越来越坚固，并且逐渐成为展示英国王室权威的王室城堡。直到19世纪初，乔治四世的大规模改造，基本达到现在的规模。
当今女王伊丽莎白二世的幼年就是在这里度过的，她常常领众多随从来此度假、度周末。特别是在王室喜庆的日子里，以及圣诞节等重要的节日，女王便会选择在温莎城堡设宴，举行隆重的庆祝活动。在英国上流社会，人们都以能够参加温莎城堡的盛典而骄傲。
